Who is Dr. Knight?
Dr. John T. Knight is an orthopedic surgeon with over 25 years of experience, fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity surgery. He sees patients in Southlake and in Dallas, and operates at Legent Hospital in Plano. Hands, wrists and the upper extremity are the whole of his practice.
He trained in orthopedic surgery at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, where he also served as chief resident, and then completed a hand and upper extremity fellowship in Los Angeles. Patients usually see him for numbness, pain, stiffness or an injury that has not settled, and the work starts with an examination rather than an assumption.
Dr. Knight gained national notoriety in the late 1990s when his persistence helped Congress pass the Aviation Medical Assistance Act on April 24, 1998, which led to defibrillators on all airplanes.

Notes for the practice, before this page could go live
- Certifying board. "Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon" is the practice's own wording and has not been independently confirmed. The board is deliberately not named here, which also keeps the page clear of the Texas advertising rule at 22 TAC 164.4 governing how a certifying board may be named. Confirm certification in writing, then we name the board.
- Years of experience. The practice's three profiles say 25, over 30 and more than three decades. This page carries the lowest of the three, over 25 years, which almost certainly undersells him. Pick one figure and we will correct the others.
- Procedure count omitted. The site and the booking profile give different totals, so no number appears here. Confirm one and it can go back.
- Media appearances. The "In the media" section repeats the practice's own written outlet list and the practice's own dated record of appearances, unchanged. None of it has been independently sourced against the outlets themselves. Send the clips or air-date confirmations and each line can carry a link.
- The board badge on this page names a board. The certification seal harvested from the practice's own site reads "American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery", on both the general orthopaedic surgery seal and the surgery of the hand seal. The credentials above still name no board in text, but the artwork makes the claim, so 22 TAC 164.4 applies to the image too. Confirm that board in writing before this badge is published, or the badge comes off.
- The YouTube channel is still named for Los Angeles. The videos here link to a channel at the handle handsurgeonla, which dates from the Los Angeles practice. Renaming it to the Dallas practice is free and removes a question every patient who clicks will have.
- Awards. Every line under "Awards and recognition" is copied from the practice's own curriculum vitae. Nothing has been verified with the awarding bodies. The site's body copy spells it "Louisiana Orthopedic Association" and its CV spells it "Louisiana Orthopaedic Association"; the CV spelling is used here.
- Athlete photograph. The image in "Treating professional athletes" is the practice's own file, published on its current home page. Confirm the athlete consented to its use in advertising before this goes live.
- Headshot. The largest file on the practice server is 312 by 412 pixels, which is why the photograph is held small on this page. A higher resolution headshot is a cheap fix with a real effect.
- Fellowship spelling. The current site spells the fellowship "Joesph H. Boyes". This page corrects it to Joseph H. Boyes.
- Language retired on purpose. The current site reaches for superlatives about Dr. Knight. None is used here. The credentials carry the argument on their own, and they are checkable.
